This is one of my favorite spots in my hometown-Batangas.
Amansinaya Mountain Resort is at San Gabriel, Laurel, Batangas. Laurel also
has an excellent view of Taal Volcano which is the world’s smallest active
volcano.
Legend has it that Bathala stood against the great love of
Amansinaya (the goddess of the sea) and Kalangitan (god of the heavens.) But
according to the myth, love indeed conquered all as Amansinaya tried to reach the
heavens for Kalangitan and built her own water kingdom on top of the mountains. Amansinaya Mountain Resort is truly a place where the water kisses the
sky.
Located in the elevated gardens of Hacienda Cascada, surrounded by lush
green landscape, it is a getaway hidden in the mountains. The Amansinaya
experience is a magical escape reliving the tale of the two star-crossed lovers
beckoning all to indulge in the richness of the mountains, water and sky.

ReplyDeleteyes! definitely! Kaya lang pag ako naging tourguide nyo, may twist. Hunger Games version, only one can get out alive :P
DeleteI thought Bathala is and the only sky god of the philippine tagalog pantheon. I also don't know of this "Kalangitan" sky god you speak of, He doesn't exist in the philippine pantheon sources.

Hi. Thanks for visiting. I'll check my notes again and verify.
DeleteHi Milaniemonic. I guess you read pinoygreenacademy's blog about Amansinaya. It was there that he created a poem-legend about Amansinaya and injected Kalangitan in the story. :)
ReplyDeleteHello again,
ReplyDeleteYeah have you read the Philippine creation myth about Bathala, Aman Sinaya and Amihan?
http://www.read-legends-and-myths.com/philippines-creation.html
And the visayan version where Bathala and Aman Sinaya fall in love? (The only difference is the names)
http://everything2.com/title/Malakas+at+Maganda
Some myths portray Bathala as being omnipotent or with no equals while others have a Trinity with Bathala, Aman Sinaya and Amihan. I think Kalingatan is based on the Malakas at Maganda version of Bathala that sort of becomes a spouse to Aman-Sinaya both being Sky Gods. I believe the myth you posted here was a revised version because some Philippine theologies portray Bathala as not the highest God, and that he is only the Sky God of the Tagalogs while Diwata was the Highest God of the universe. I believe Kalingatan is actually Bathala and that Bathala in your posted myth is Diwata. The names got switched I guess.
